In December of 2020, my wife Monic and I were invited to preside over the Belgium/Netherlands Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. More info.
This means that I’ll be taking a sabbatical from the day to day world of running my consultancy business from the summer of 2021 to the summer of 2024. Let me explain a little further about why I am doing this.
My parents were converts to the church in the early 1960’s. I have always been a member and was fortunate to serve as a young missionary between 1983 and 1985 in London. After returning home, I studied for a few years at University in Edinburgh. Then in the early 1990’s a young missionary from the Netherlands came to Scotland to serve for 18 months. A few years later in 1994 we were married and subsequently lived in the Netherlands for a year.
Returning to Scotland in 1995, I finished my studies, then 3 children, careers and a few different homes followed. I am so very grateful for the blessings of the gospel of Jesus Christ that have come into our lives.
Why do I choose to belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as an organised religion? It is because every single day, the church helps me understand a little more and practice the essence of true Christianity.
One of the key practices of the church is that is has a lay clergy, just exactly as Christ taught. Through our lives, both my wife and I have had frequent opportunities to minister to many others through different assignments given us to serve.
Simply being able to serve has been a wonderful blessing for us and our family.
When we were invited to accept this new opportunity of service, we were both humbled and thrilled to be able to return to Belgium and the Netherlands.
You can find out more about the basic beliefs of the Church at www.comeuntochrist.org where you can arrange to speak with missionaries. We’ll be working with a few of them every single day over the next 3 years and really look forward to helping people from all over the world Come unto Christ.
